How we met

OUR LOVE STORY

One day, not so long ago, Dirk and Martina were swiping left until they happened upon each other and both swiped right!  Dirk told Martina about his big win at a poker tournament where he had just come into some serious cash (200kr about $20) and he wanted to burn it all buying her drinks.  She couldn't believe her luck and after an evening at work she took the subway into the city to meet the man of her dreams, almost missed her stop, and lost her gloves which were worth more than Dirk's poker winnings.  At that point she felt especially glad to meet a man who had just come into so much money.  One beer became two beers and then Dirk ran out of money.  She was however, intrigued by this strange American and agreed to have his children. Wait! I'm jumping ahead here!

The next test for Dirk was to come to Martina's thai boxing gym to see if he could survive training with Martina's coach, a thai boxing world champion!  Dirk survived, barely, so he was ready for the next ordeal: shots, sauna, shooting, midnight sun, and mosquitos (so many mosquitos).  He again survived, barely, and then, finally, Martina decided that Dirk was worthy of her love.  They discovered that they share a love of adventure and the great outdoors and started traveling the world together.  

When they were finally ready to take the New Zealand adventure they dreamed of, a giant metal beam fell from the sky and landed Martina in the intensive care ward.  Dirk spent all his time at the hospital waiting for her to wake up again.  When she finally did, she wasn't pretty, but he still wanted to kiss her. That's when she really knew that he was worthy of her love.  

Exactly one year after the accident Martina and Dirk introduced their first new member to the family...the best beagle that there ever was, and ever will be, BARLEY!  Two years after the accident they decided to take another shot at the dream vacation to New Zealand and figured what could go wrong this time?  It's not like the world was going to end or anything, right??  The world did in fact end (mostly) and they ended up stranded, in lockdown, with gracious hosts and another new family member growing in Martina's belly.  Luckily (or unluckily?) they made it back to Sweden and in the fall the most adorable little baby AUGUST was born!  

Their apartment in Stockholm quickly became too small with so many new family members and they dreamed of that big house with the yard, but Dirk's poker winnings couldn't get them that far in Stockholm.  They decided to pack up the wagon and head for the frontier to try their luck at a new life in the arctic, in Martina's hometown of Boden where they eagerly await your arrival!
